Lawn Aeration

Core Aeration is an important component of a healthy lawn. The need for aeration is based on many factors, including soil composition, the amount of traffic the lawn receives, and the species of turf in your lawn. These are just a few of the factors that should determine the frequency with which your lawn should be aerated. We’ve found that typically an otherwise healthy lawn showing no major signs of stress will benefit from aeration on a biennial basis. We always recommend aeration for cool season grasses be done in the fall months, while warm season grasses should be aerated in the summer while they are actively growing.

Benefits of core Aeration

  • Alleviation of soil compaction

  • Breakdown of thatch layer

  • Increase root mass and depth

  • Improved water percolation

  • Improved drought tolerance

  • Improved nutrient uptake

Overseeding

Overseeding is a service we provide for our clients who might have a few areas in their lawn they’d like to improve, or they just want to introduce new diverse turf varieties to their existing lawn. It is recommended that overseeding be done after aeration or some other form of soil disruption to ensure good seed to soil contact. This will be done with a drop seeder or broadcast spreader.

Slit Seeding

If a client has a lawn with large areas devoid of turf or you are starting a lawn from bare soil we always recommend Slit Seeding as it will produce the best results in these scenarios. With Slit Seeding the machine cuts vertical slices in the soil and drops seed into rows. We are always happy to make a recommendation on which seeding option will produce the best results for your needs.
